As a final work for Systems Thinking for Sustainable Living Environment -course, our multidisciplinary team was tasked to envision a regenerative transportation concept.

We started with an assumption that in the future transportation must be CO2 neutral. Therefore, we focused on the renewable energy production and delivery network that could make the clean transportation possible, while also causing regenerative effects in other perspectives.  By designing a transportation system that would lead to positive net effects to the living systems

instead of the current negative ones, we tried to tackle the task to be regenerative.

The concept is a smart road system that for urban and rural areas, visualized in the two scenario images. The road gathers solar from the sun and braking energy from the vehicles, storing the energy inside the road structure and releasing the energy that is needed for electric vehicles of the future. The road system also supports the flow of biodiversity, with bridge-like structures and layers of soil in the road structure itself.

Being regenerative design, the concept was based on how ecosystems function and modulated for place-specific ecosystem needs.
